About 92% of citizens who set a self-ban did so in the first month of the service’s operation.
This is according to information from the Bank of Russia, based on data from credit bureaus. 44% of people who used the self-ban have no current credit obligations, including 26% who never had such obligations. The new tool was hardly used by citizens who only have current microloans from Microfinance Institutions (less than 1% of citizens who set a self-ban).
The leaders in the number of set self-bans were residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region (over 19% of the citizens who set a self-ban in Russia), St. Petersburg (over 5%), the Rostov and Sverdlovsk Regions, the Republic of Bashkortostan, and the Krasnodar Territory (over 3% in each region). In the first month, the self-ban service was used by over 8.1 million people, indicating high demand for the new tool to combat fraud. Every citizen with a Taxpayer Identification Number (INN) is provided with the opportunity to set (remove) a self-ban free of charge any number of times, and to obtain information about the existence of a self-ban by submitting an application to qualified credit bureaus through the Gosuslugi portal.
Over 8.1 million citizens used the service to set a self-ban in the first month.
